Attacks in Chile “a blow to the hearts of Catholics”

"The burned down churches are a blow to the hearts of Catholics: protestors draw blasphemous graffiti and incite violence" the Archbishop of Santiago de Chile spoke to the Daily Compass following the Sunday fires. "It would be foolish to deny that the inspiration for these attacks on the Church and religion are the errors of our Church and the sins we have committed and are ashamed of."

Statism, globalism, ecologism: ideologies that destroy people

Catholic Social Doctrine is a veritable antidote to the ideologies currently dominating economic policies. This is also true in terms of how the Covid pandemic has been handled, giving rise to both a new form of centralised government and an "open society". It is true also in terms of the ecological movement, which has now become a new religion and the cause of injustices harming the poor. It also holds true for economic "degrowth" which smacks of dangerous utopian ideals and reminiscent of centuries-old heresies involving pauperism. Finally, Catholic Social Doctrine is an antidote to globalism, a distortion of true fraternity. Below, we publish some the main points from Archbishop Giampaolo Crepaldi's talk given at the third annual Catholic Social Doctrine conference in Lonigo (Northern Italy).

The Vatican pays in Pachamama

The Vatican Mint has issued a new €10 silver coin to celebrate Earth Day: engraved on one side, is the image of Mother Earth projecting the iconography of the Pachamama. A scandalous choice: the Catholic Church is paying tribute to a pagan divinity.

Order of Malta: the professed knights’ revolt

It’s a harsh letter signed by several professed knights of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta against attempts to impose a secularising reform of the order. The letter represents the latest episode of open war waged within the Order since 2017, when its Grand Master was forced to resign by Pope Francis.

The popes’ penchant for wine (especially the Avignon popes)

Today the Vatican has the highest per capita consumption of wine in the world, but the link between the popes and wine has roots dating back to the 13th century. Above all, it was during the Avignon period that successive popes greatly boosted the development of vine varieties and the production and consumption of wine.

"Turks and Azeris want us dead; we Armenians are defending Christianity”
NAGORNO/DIRECT TESTIMONY FROM THE FRONT LINES

"Turks and Azeris want us dead; we Armenians are defending Christianity”

“From where I am, while I can hear the noise of gunfire and falling shells, I see just how huge is the pack of lies spread by the western media”. Teresa Mkhitaryan, the foundress of the humanitarian association “The Seed”, speaks about the attack on her homeland now underway: “It isn’t true that hundreds of persons have died, but thousands; it isn’t true that we launched any attack, but Azerbaijan did; it isn’t true that under direct attack is Nagorno-Karabakh alone”. But here my people are reacting, “my people are bearing witness to both great courage and impressive faith”.

Milwaukee's violent protests, seen live. "What you don't see on the news is the quiet, destroyed aftermath of the “loot ‘em and leave ‘em” approach. . But the experience serves as a wake-up call, to start rebuilding, not only the shop windows, but also society.

Covid psychosis is the consequence of an ageing western world

There is a pandemic psychosis that is no longer justified by the public health emergency now behind us.  Nonetheless, fears about the future and returning to normal life are now characteristics of gerontocratic and infertile societies that have practically lost their vital thrust. COVID induced panic has become both a symptom and a driver of those societies’ decadence.

Fratelli Tutti: Magisterium, needle in a haystack of opinions

The faithful are called to give their assent and religious submission to the pronouncements of the Magisterium, but once again in Fratelli Tutti the Magisterium does not carry out its task, and almost the entire encyclical is a string of opinions and ideas that, while they may be interesting, fall in the category of opinions.
