The soul’s salvation

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth. (Matthew 6: 19)

Jesus said to his disciples: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!” (Matthew 6: 19-23)

The true treasure of every man is his soul. To put the attainment of temporal goods before the salvation of one's soul is a foolish decision, because after we die we will bring nothing of material value with us. Rather, we will be judged only according to the spiritual consequences of our actions. Let us strive to obey the divine will more and more each day, without neglecting the Word of God, the teachings of the Church and her sacraments, our sincere allies for obtaining the treasure of eternal life.
