Surely the bridegroom’s attendants would never think of mourning as long as the bridegroom is still with them? (Matthew 9, 15)

John’s disciples came to Jesus and said, ‘Why is it that we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not?’ Jesus replied, ‘Surely the bridegroom’s attendants would never think of mourning as long as the bridegroom is still with them? But the time will come for the bridegroom to be taken away from them, and then they will fast.’ (Matthew 9, 14-15)

Just as it was two thousand years ago for the apostles, so it is today for Christians, they find happiness being close to Jesus. We are only asked to choose Him freely to love, serve Him in this life and be happy with Him in the next. Ask yourself if you are really want to be close to Jesus, already in this life, by receiving the Sacraments and putting His Word into practice. Or is Jesus ultimately the great absentee on your weekdays?
