Lord of your life

Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit (Luke 1, 41)

Gospel Pearls 21_12_2021

Mary set out and went as quickly as she could to a town in the hill country of Judah. She went into Zechariah’s house and greeted Elizabeth. Now as soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child leapt in her womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. She gave a loud cry and said, ‘Of all women you are the most blessed, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. Why should I be honoured with a visit from the mother of my Lord? For the moment your greeting reached my ears, the child in my womb leapt for joy. Yes, blessed is she who believed that the promise made her by the Lord would be fulfilled.’(Luke 1, 39-45)

The Holy Spirit, who is the protagonist of the encounter between Mary and her cousin, reveals to Elizabeth the true reason for Mary's greatness and bliss: having believed in the fulfilment of what the Lord told her. In fact, what will or will not save our souls is faith in God, which must be lived out in corporal and spiritual works of mercy: Mary does not hesitate to bring moral and material help to her cousin despite the period of pregnancy she is facing. Do you trust God like Elizabeth and Mary? Do you let yourself be inspired by Jesus in your daily choices or does your life flow independently of the Lord of your life?
