GOSPEL PEARLS

Jesus is only waiting for our Yes

Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation (Mk 8:12)

Gospel Pearls 17_02_2020

The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with Jesus,
seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him.
He sighed from the depth of his spirit and said,
“Why does this generation seek a sign?
Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”
Then he left them, got into the boat again,
and went off to the other shore. (Mk 8:11-13)

Given His divine nature, Jesus already knows the secrets within the heart of every person. If Jesus perceives, as in this case, that the request for a sign is to satisfy the prodigious thirst of some or even provoke violent reactions in those who are negative towards Him and His teaching, He declines to give a response. In short, it is a merciful act not to exacerbate the hatred towards Him in the hearts of His opponents and determine their eternal condemnation. Jesus patiently waits for our "yes" until the last moment of life. Let us therefore open the door of our soul to Jesus, who knocks and who awaits only for our "yes".
