GOSPEL PEARLS

Examination of conscience

They began to bring in the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was (Mk 6:55)

Gospel Pearls 10_02_2020

After making the crossing to the other side of the sea,
Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret
and tied up there.
As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him.
They scurried about the surrounding country
and began to bring in the sick on mats
to wherever they heard he was.
Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered,
they laid the sick in the marketplaces
and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak;
and as many as touched it were healed. (Mk 6:53-56)

Like the people in Jesus' time, we too are suffering or, at least, in need of help because we are all sinners. In other words, we primarily need His forgiveness. When Jesus was alive, He was the one to forgive sins and heal the sinners and suffering people who came to Him, but today we need a priest who acts in persona Christi (in the person of Christ). Furthermore, it must be recognised that all the sufferings and punishments to which we are subject derive from the refusal to let ourselves be guided by Him, infinitely good and worthy of being loved above all creatures. Therefore, let’s commit ourselves to making a sincere examination of conscience in order to be able to ask for the forgiveness of Jesus.
