This work becomes even more apparent and luminous in times of darkness.” This is an extract from Pope Leo's Message for World Peace Day 2026.
These words also encapsulate the purpose of the Daily Compass, a Catholic news website dedicated to promoting God's work in the world through information and education.
Day after day, news item after news item, like small bricks building a cathedral on the horizon, showing everyone our destiny, which passes through the events of the world.
'The darkness of the times' means that perseverance in witnessing is put to an even greater test. Just recently, we saw the case of Jimmy Lai, the condemned Catholic entrepreneur and publisher from Hong Kong, who is at serious risk of dying in prison simply for fighting for freedom and truth. There are others.
Such stories have only received the attention they deserve on the Daily Compass, as have the stories of many other witnesses to an 'unarmed peace', as defined by Leo XIV.
This is only possible thanks to the generosity of our readers, who support our work with their donations. That is why, this Christmas season, the Daily Compass is turning to you again to ask you to continue supporting this daily effort to bear witness.
