Why she believed
For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother. (Matthew 12: 50)
While Jesus was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers[a] stood outside, asking to speak to him. But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” (Matthew 12: 46-50)
Mary is not blessed only because she is the mother of Jesus. Above all she is blessed because she believed fully in God, placing herself humbly and promptly at His disposal to do His will. May Mary help us to serve Jesus in our poor brothers and sisters, just as she served God in the child Jesus whom she welcomed into her life.
