GOSPEL PEARLS

Too late

If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. (John 12: 48)

Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me. I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. “If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world.  There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day. For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.” (John 12: 44-50)

Only Jesus intercedes for us through the Father. Those who reject His Son have no one else who turn to for their defence at the time of their Judgment, to which all of us will be subjected by God. We will be judged based on our acceptance and conformity of our lives to the teachings Jesus gave us, and not based on our own parameters. It won't be good enough to say "I was good" or that "I didn't hurt anyone." If we have looked at a woman with lust, even if it seems trivial to us, according what Jesus taught us, we have then committed adultery in our hearts. Adultery is a mortal sin that can put us in hell. If then we have not forgiven someone for something bad they have done to us, how can we then hope to receive Jesus’s forgiveness, especially when he has been so clear about this? Let's not take the Gospel and the Church’s teachings so lightly, less we repent when it’s too late...
