GOSPEL PEARLS

Not only marvels

!He warned them sternly not to make him known." (Mk 3:12)

Gospel Pearls 23_01_2020

Jesus withdrew toward the sea with his disciples.
A large number of people followed from Galilee and from Judea.
Hearing what he was doing,
a large number of people came to him also from Jerusalem,
from Idumea, from beyond the Jordan,
and from the neighborhood of Tyre and Sidon.
He told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd,
so that they would not crush him.
He had cured many and, as a result, those who had diseases
were pressing upon him to touch him.
And whenever unclean spirits saw him they would fall down before him
and shout, “You are the Son of God.”
He warned them sternly not to make him known. (Mk 3:7-12)

Jesus embodies the deepest desires of every person. Even demons experience this attraction to Jesus, but, since their angelic nature is purely spiritual and they are unable to convert, they are compelled to bow to His authority and, despite themselves, return to their original role as messengers who reveal His divine nature. Jesus, however, commands them to be silent because the task of revealing who He is, is His alone and must be communicated above all through love and not by satisfying ones curiosity and the thirst for miracles as an end in itself. Let us love the Lord ever more fully, without asking for anything in return other than His loving presence.
