Don’t overshadow Jesus
First take the log out of your own eye. (Luke 6: 42)
Jesus told his disciples a parable: “Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother's eye.” (Luke 6: 39-42)
Christians must not overshadow Jesus by putting themselves at the centre of attention. For example, when reprimanding others, the focus must be on one’s love for Jesus and not on the self-love of whoever is doing the chastising. We will only be able to truly help others once we have humbly acknowledged both our own shortcomings and the fact that everything we know how to do is a actually gift from God. Reread, word for word, the verse on how we can help our neighbour so as to be mindful of how to do so in the future.
