GOSPEL PEARLS

Resisting temptation is not impossible

He was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan.  (Mark 1: 13)

The Spirit immediately drove Jesus out into the wilderness. And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him. Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1: 12-15)

Through His Incarnation, Jesus took upon himself all the limitations (e.g., hunger and thirst) and trials which all human beings undergo, including being tempted by the devil. This speaks volumes of Jesus' humility and love for each of us. Jesus' limitations, trials, and human temptations were allowed to teach us through His personal witness. Hence, no one can now claim that resisting temptation is impossible.
